E. Geer Street Stream & Buffer Restoration Project
S&EC prepared the design for the restoration of approximately 450 linear feet of piedmont stream (and its associated riparian buffer) and approximately 0.1 acres of riparian wetlands that were inadvertently impacted as a result of development activities on the E. Geer Street property in Durham County, NC. The project scope included site data collection from an unimpacted portion of stream on the property, evaluation of existing impaired/impacted site conditions, the development of a conceptual restoration plan, and development of construction documents including Construction Drawings with incorporated Technical Specifications. The stream restoration utilized collected reference reach data and natural channel design methodologies. The project also included U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), North Carolina Division of Water Resources (DWR) and Durham City/County regulatory coordination to bring the site back into compliance. S&EC assisted with the selection of a construction contractor and provided contractor coordination and construction observation while the restoration work was performed.
